Volunteer to get your feet wet with monitoring for cyanobacteria in Wellfleet ponds!
Friends of Wellfleet Ponds (FWP) volunteers collect cyanobacteria monitoring samples from Wellfleet ponds. Monitoring is done every other Thursday morning starting the last week in May and ending the last week in October. We use the protocol established by the program sponsor, Association to Preserve Cape Cod (APCC). Details on the sampling methods used and field work entailed can be viewed at https://vimeo.com/863411717 .
Presently, one pair of volunteers handles the sampling sites at Gull, Herring, Higgins and Spectacle ponds while another pair samples Duck, Dyer, Great and Long ponds. Other FWP-ers serve as substitute samplers as needed. Any new-to-FWP members interested in observing or assisting with monitoring should indicate so via the info@wellfleetponds.org message board.

Currently, these are the ways we offer for people to get involved in volunteering for our ponds. More opportunities will become available as the Friends of Wellfleet Ponds project evolves. Feel free to check in with us from time to time to keep informed.
