Higgins Pond

About the Pond
Higgins Pond is named after the Higgins family, which played a significant role in shaping Wellfleet’s town history through their contributions to agriculture, fishing, and community building. As early settlers, they helped establish essential services and infrastructure that supported the growth of the town. Higgins Pond is 20 feet at its maximum depth and covers an area of 27 acres. Gull, Higgins, and Williams Ponds are interconnected through surface water connections, known as “sluices.” The health of one pond can influence the others due to their shared watershed, which helps maintain the overall ecosystem and water quality across these bodies of water.
