Gull Pond

About the Pond
Gull Pond got its name from the numerous seagulls that are often seen in the area. The presence of these birds highlights the pond’s connection to the coastal ecosystem and adds to its charm as a natural habitat. Gull Pond is the largest of the Wellfleet Ponds. It has a maximum depth of 64 feet and covers an area of 108 acres. Gull, Higgins, and Williams Ponds are interconnected through a system of surface water connections, known as “sluices,” and groundwater flows. The health of one pond can influence the others due to their shared watershed, which helps maintain the overall ecosystem and water quality across these bodies of water. Gull Pond is fed by a spring at its bottom, which contributes to its water levels.
